XD Studio Lab is an independent publication about tools, systems and ideas for digital work.
It was created by Xiaodong Wang to document practical experiments across research, design, technology, publishing and digital product creation. Everything here comes from work that was actually done: tools that were used, systems that were built, and products that were shipped.
Real tools. Real workflows. Independent thinking.
Xiaodong Wang
Xiaodong Wang is the founder and writer behind XD Studio Lab. His background crosses three fields that turned out to be the same field.
Physical systems
Architecture, urban planning and complex project management. Years of working with constraints, sequencing and the cost of late decisions.
Research and data
GIS, OpenStreetMap and data-informed analysis. Forming a question, building evidence, and being honest about what the evidence does not show.
Digital systems
UX and UI design, websites, software tools, AI workflows and small digital products. The same systems thinking applied to things that ship in weeks rather than years.
That combination explains the bias of this publication: it judge tools by the workflow they belong to, not by their feature list.

How Recommendations Work
A tool appears on this site because it was used in real work, usually for months. Affiliate links exist on some pages and never decide what gets recommended. Every article is written to be useful even if every affiliate link is removed.
Elsewhere
YouTube, Medium and LinkedIn carry adapted versions of selected articles. The original always lives here first.
